The “Back” end

Busa 3

For pure simplicity, a Ford Escort rear diff was used in the construction of the Hayabusa Rally Starlet in 2006. it utilises Quaife semi-floating rear axles with very large diameter bearings. We replace the wheel studs every 10 events. It has had a bit of strengthening around the housing and as you can see , it runs a Watts linkage. This is again a Ford Escort item and readily available. We also lift the level bung to enable more oil in the housing for lubrication and cooling. It is lifted 20mm. The key to running an Escort diff is the ease of finding a 3.5:1 ratio to enable these motors to be geared correctly. They come out in a 1600 Escort Sport version and although getting a little hard to find now they are still around. The large reservoirs are from my Shock absorbers I built in conjunction with a company  called “RG3” . You can see the high speed and low speed adjusters in view.

There are also “4 Link” bars that run forward, again an Escort part and the same length. Rear brakes are a 2 Pot item, running Ferodo pads. Body due for a re-paint shortly…
